A Movie In The Making
One day I decided to take a drive down the road to my friend Thor’s house. We sat down on the coach and began to talk. We talked about a lot of things: Video games, people, school, and even TV shows we both liked. Soon after we began to talk about the short film we made the year before. “I went to Liev’s house the other day” Thor said. “We made a little clip, almost like a James bond action scene”. I then thought to myself “This will be interesting, I have heard that Liev is great actor. Maybe I can help them with their next film”. Thor then showed me the clip. It was a lot better than I thought it would be. After that Thor and I decided to make another that day. That’s where my story begins…
While we were collecting props I came up with a quick story line. Thor plays the main character, a U.S military training officer, who must gain the respect his impatience betrayed. We started with a small clip, which became the second scene in a full movie. He tries to his rank by investigating a local crime. A wealthy man tries to make trade for a suite case full of newly printed cash. Thor begins a conflict to unfold this mystery and soon destroys the rich man and collects the suite case. Although the other trader gets away, Thor is still motivated to solve the mystery. He then later finds a crystal in the case, which made him very curious to how it got there.
The excitement did nothing but rise that week. Thor and Lars where expecting the best of it, and they got just that. After spending a week editing, I found myself raged with accomplishment. Thor, Lars and Colby where all fascinated with the intense action they saw before them. After that day I knew, I knew that I had found a great talent: Film. Much time went past. Things seemed to change, or become silent. That’s when I thought to my self “An idea, all I need is an idea and a story will build its self: an idea”.
That was when it all came together. Later that year, near summer’s end Thor invited me to meet him at our local town beach. Swimming out to “the rock” (our hang out spot), I saw Thor in the distance. But there was some one else, someone else with him. I then stood up on the rock and found that it was Liev. He turned from his conversation with Thor. He looked as he had something very important to tell me.
“Thor showed me the movie you made” for a second I thought he was mad at me “and it was fantastic!” he yelled. “I loved the story line and the action effects and I think we should a sequel. I have great ideas for my character.” “That sounds like a phenomenal idea!” I said. “But I don’t think should make a sequel. You see, I would consider that more of a clip than a film. Maybe we should add more around the movie to make it seem more professional.” “I think that’s a good idea since we already made a big piece of it.” Thor stated.
After that day I had motivated myself to write the long story line, soon to add four scenes to the film. I spent hours at home, summer camp, and even vacation working on them. But finally after all of that hard work, I finished. I then invited: Thor, Liev, Zack, Dylan, and of coarse my brother Colby to the set. It was the last day of summer and I had spent the entire morning building an army training base (complete with a target range, obstacle coarse, and a tree house!). Every one had arrived with their costumes and props. We then began to film once again. I noted every position as I filmed and explained their lines and actions. We spent the entire afternoon filming and then we finally completed the first two scenes.
In this scene Thor’s impatience takes the best of him when he is told he is the finest soldier in the country but his general says he cannot yet be part in the military. This feeling is what causes him to try and show off the next day, when he decides to show off to the training base. After causing such destruction, the general told him not to ever come back. Thor then decides to investigate local crimes to gain back his rank. Months go past and Thor’s investigations lead him to a small home that seemed to be occupied by a suspicious organization. Thor than breaks in to the house and finds that it is rigged with explosives. As the building begins to collapse Thor fights over a briefcase with a Russian terrorist. They then both escape the house leaving the briefcase to be taken by a wealthy looking man with a hat.
When fall came we where not able to find a lot of days people could get together. With sports and homework the dream of completing the movie began to disappear. Although some gave up hope on the film, I still did not give up. The next three weeks we completed two more scenes. These scenes came after the original clip, unlike the other which came before. These scenes where the larger than any the others we had filmed, so we needed a lot of people to bring them to life. It took a few days but I had finally got a ton of people to join in the scenes. I invited: Liev, Thor, Dylan, Zack, Lars, Danny, Jess, Colby.B, Colby, Raymond and Sam that day, to help make them seem as realistic as possible.
“Lights, camera, Action!” I shouted. Every one was in battle position, Thor puts on his sunglasses, and Liev puts some finishing touches on Colby’s scars. People are jumping and rolling everywhere you look. Liev puts on his trench coat and squeezes threw the crack in the rock. “That’s a wrap!” I shouted. Noise began to grow and actors began to laugh. “Quite on the set!” The noise then came to silence, so I continued my conversation with Zack.
In this scene Thor tracks down the terrorist he had fought in the house. He soon gained knowledge of an important meeting, in a warehouse some wear near green leaf California. He then discovered that a man part of the organization broke in to the white house and stole the football. When Thor told the authorities, the military was on the case immediately. Thor than chases the terrorist, while the National Guard fights the organization. Thor is then knocked unconscious by the terrorist in a fight. When he wakes up he finds that the terrorist had been destroyed, and finds the mastermind behind the entire conflict. He was the man who was giving the man the money. But he thought the man was dead. He was the only one Thor would not expect...
Finally it was time to film the last scene. I had been working on the film so long that the leaves began to change and the air began to chill. It was the end, the end of the fun: the end of a story. This time no one laughed or fooled around. No one spoke if not spoken to. We began to film on the green screen and then we moved on to the woods. They woods seemed strange that day, as if an old world was coming to its peaceful end. We were not happy or sad that day, but simply confused of what the next step would be.
He wore a white mask. It showed no expression, but just a smidge of fear. Although his face was blank, he could still see it in his eyes. As the man threatened his end, Thor was able to cut the rope in which his hands where bound. Before the man took his strike Thor managed to maneuver out of his chair. Thor fights for his life as they battled to the death. He ripped off the man’s mask ”Do you see what you’ve done to me!” he yelled. The man’s face intimidated him. What he saw was the face of evil. He seemed zombified of some sort, almost unnatural.
Thor than knocked the man to the ground and unclipped a grenade. “BOOM!” he heard, as he ran away form the warehouse. “It was all over,” he thought: “It was all over”. As he walked back into the forest he heard a noise, a yell in fact. He looked back and the man had survived. He was running on his last breath “Give me the crystal!” he yelled, “Give me the crystal!” The man was crawling on the ground, blazed with flames. But he still lived, he still survived.
The battle was still going on deep in the woods. He could see smoke in the distance and helicopters hovering above him. As the unmasked man stood up, he became distracted. A rocket was launched into the sky “WOOSH!” As Thor looked higher into the sky a helicopter came crashing down, out of the skies. It seemed to be coming strait for him, but it was! He leaped to the side as the helicopter hit the ground and exploded into a million peaces. As he stood up he noticed something. He was gone, the masked man had been destroyed! Three weeks after Thor receives a medal and is reinitiated in the navy. But he kept the truth a secret and the crystal in hand.
It was completed! After a month of editing it was finally completed! Friends gossiped and cheered, all begging to see the film. It was time, for the movie premier! People came with cakes and cameras all ready for the film! As a placed the disks down on the table people raged in by fives and tens. We had set up a huge screen for the projector and over thirty chairs.
After the showing of the movie you could not believe the faces of the actors. They yelled and cheered as people emptied into the main hall of the barn. They yelled “Speech, speech, speech!” At that time I did not know what to do. But I trusted my gut and went for it. I talked about the fantastic job the actors did and what and amazing movie it was. By the end of the premier all of the actors where running around, reenacting scenes, and playing war in the black night. The next day I told my self “Its not over yet. Soon it will be time, for a new film, for a new world”...
